Updated: Apr 26, 2023

CaDeidra Jarmon, ICHDE Community Engagement Coordinator, speaks to audience members about providing community-informed trauma care for West Center City Residents.

Strengthening Communities

WILMINGTON, DE - With collaboration from Interfaith Community Housing, Inc. (ICHDE) and the organization's Home Ownership Center Advisory Board, the seed to spark positive change within the community was planted.

"We need mentors in our neighborhoods. Yes, people prosper and move out, but generations of families make up this community - and we know that is true of West Center City. They can become such great mentors to people we may not have that in their lives" says Attorney General Kathy Jennings who was a featured panelist for ICHDE's Round Table Conversation Series.

Creating healthy communities, preventative measures, and creating healthy communities were among the topics discussed during the Rebuilding the Community: A Round Table Conversation - Creating Healthy Communities, panel discussion.

Panelists discussed ways in which they overcame violence in their communities as adolescence as well as methods they use to prevent and diffuse future dissension within the Wilmington community.

" You have the Hicks Anderson Community Center, the Porter Center, Interfaith Community Housing - a hub. West Center City could be the hub for family reunification, highlighting some of our most brilliant minds: our young people.", John Cook, the State of Delaware Group Violence Intervention and Outreach Director, featured panelist.

Panelists continued by recognizing that rebuilding communities for positive change is not the sole responsibility of one organization or individual but rather charged the audience to continue to stand together in solidarity.

Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware, Inc. seeks to have this event be the spark that produces several round table events and tangible change within the West Center City Community.
