The WCC Futures Council is a group of concerned citizens, civic associations, civic groups, non profits, businesses and faith based organizations within West Center City working together to improve their community. The West Center City Futures Council partners with Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware and Wells Fargo Regional Foundation.
The West Center City Futures Initiative’s vision for revitalization is to promote the growth and development of the PEOPLE of West Center City; to bolster a cohesive West Center City COMMUNITY that shares the values of civic responsibility, accountability, and engagement; and to recreate West Center City as a safe, attractive, and sustainable PLACE in which people and communities can thrive.
ICHDE’s community-led approach—designed to bring forth comprehensive, transformative and sustainable
community change in West Center City—includes three main strategy areas:
Cultivating and empowering resident leaders in the community
Building community and engaging residents through arts and culture
Investing in housing rehabilitation and development
Engaging and empowering resident leaders is essential to creating sustainable and transformative community change. ICHDE focuses on providing a platform for motivated residents to advocate for and take active roles in their community. Resident leadership programs enable West Center City’s transformation to be led by those most impacted by the work. Empowering community residents – both young and old – to invest in their neighborhood is a critical strategy to ensuring sustainable change.
